When deciding on a career, always consider the following before you make any choices:

  • What are your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats?
  • What are your interests
  • What are your goals for the future
  • Are those goals realistic
  • What skills do you need to have in order to pursue that career
  • Is there a market or a demand for that career
  • With the education and skills you currently possess, are you in the right path
  • Get information from people who are currently in that career you are thinking of
  • Find out if there are aspects you love about it

Deciding on applying for a vacancy

  • When creating your resume, put yourself in the shoes of the employer
    Most employers take about 5 seconds to go through a resume certainly because they are looking for specific information
  • Every vacant post has requirements, skills and competencies
    It is always best to identify exactly what is required when creating a resume
  • Don’t include unnecessary information on your CV
    Make your CV short as possible but include all the relevant information
    Have traceable references
    Attach supporting documents
    Have a brief cover letter when required that entails why you are a perfect fit for the position
  • When you are invited for an interview, do research on the company and position you have applied for
    Draft questions that might be asked and answer them in a professional manner
    Also have a few questions you might ask the interviewer
    Arrive on time at the interviewer venue
    Dress professionally, avoid revealing clothes and don’t use too much cologne
